Create Your Family Genogram Easily Online
A Triangle Therapist tool
A family map across three generations, top to bottom. Everyone is a Center — the observing self at the heart of your model. Name each person and add one word for them; tap a mark to note a status; tap any couple’s line to mark how that bond actually was.
Nothing here is saved or sent — it lives only on your screen. Print to keep it.
Why draw your family?
The genogram comes from family systems therapy — Murray Bowen’s insight that a family is one emotional unit across generations, later standardized by Monica McGoldrick. The idea is simple and a little unnerving: patterns travel. Distance, conflict, caretaking, silence — they move down family lines like a surname, until someone sees the pattern on paper and gets to choose. On our map, that’s the Circle: the story written before you knew — and every circle can be redrawn.
Notice what repeats across your three generations. Who was close to whom? Where are the cut-offs? Which bonds carry the same line as yours do now? Bring the page to a session — therapists who work at the story point and in couples & family therapy use genograms exactly this way.
Seeing the pattern is a beginning. Talking about it is a next step.
